The Language School of Universidad Empresarial welcomes all students and professionals from all corners of the world. Our students come to our program to learn a language or become more fluent in that language for personal, professional or business reasons.

Universidad Empresarial maintains two programs under the umbrella of The Language School: The English Language Institute and The Spanish Language Institute.

The Language Institutes emphasize the following: conversation, pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, reading, writing

When enrolled at one of our Language Institutes, the students will participate in the computerized language labs. The students will have intensive training in the areas of pronunciation, diction and comprehension. This training will complement the daily language lectures and practical conversation with native language speakers.

Our Language School offers classes throughout the year in order to accommodate the student’s individual schedules. It is encouraged, in all of our Language Institutes, active participation in the learning process. All classes have no more than 10 participants. Lodging

The Language School of Universidad Empresarial places its students with local families. These families have been selected by the University to provide lodging for our students in their homes, they speak only the language the student is trying to learn (i.e., Spanish or English) as this is an integral part of the program.

The student practices the language with the families, usually in the evenings, when the student is not involved in evening activities sponsored by UNEM. The student receives from the families: lodging, breakfast, the use of the telephone for local calls (international calls must be made collect or by international calling card). Students are highly discouraged from speaking their native language during their stay at any of the Institutes of the Language School, as this program is considered a total immersion program and to speak one’s native language would hinder the student’s progress. Students preferring to make other arrangements may stay at local hotels available from luxury to budget.

Tours

All students in the Language Institutes will participate in two cultural evening activities per week on Tuesdays and Thursdays and one excursion each weekend. The following are some of the cultural evening activities the students will be exposed to:

  • An evening at the theater.

  • An evening at a typical Costa Rican restaurant.

  • Evening cooking classes of typical Costa Rican cuisine.

  • Evening dance classes.

  • A visit to local museums.

  • A visit to a typical Costa Rican open market.

  • An evening at a typical Costa Rican barbecue.

The weekend excursions include points of interest such as:

  • Volcanoes

  • National parks

  • Beaches

  • Rivers

  • Coffee plantations

  • Mountains

  • Rain forest with their typical flora and fauna

All university sponsored cultural activities and excursions of the Language Institutes will be accompanied by a language teacher from the Institute and a tour guide.
